About us

Description

Founded in 1932, the winery can now store 25,000 hectolitres of wine in its stainless steel, and coated concrete vats. We have 400 barrels, a winery, two stone-built granges for maturing it, and a separate zone for storing the bottles.

Also, all the necessary modern technology:

  • A pneumatic press and a system for carbonic maceration
  • A destalker, three refrigeration units, insulated vats, filters

We undertake all stages of the wine-making ourselves, from the harvest right through to the bottling.

The vineyards

250 hectares, of which 95% are classed Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Corbières, on a calcareous gravelly clay, originating from the terraces of the Montagne d’Alaric. The vineyards are situated at 60-120m above sea level.

Facing south, the vines are protected from the strong westerly wind and sea breezes by the mountain (600m).

Five exclusively Mediterranean grape varieties are grown:

  • Carignan 40 %
  • Cinsault 10 %
  • Grenache 28 %
  • Mourvèdre 12 %
  • Syrah 10 %

The annual yields vary between 46 and 50 hectolitres/hectare.

The harvesting is entirely by hand and is spread over a whole month.

We are concerned about preserving both the environment and the quality of our wine, and we have set up a system of sustainable management of the vines. All of 2002's harves is certified with the "Terra Vitis" label.

The people

Our organisation brings together a total of 50 vine growers but is unusual in that 8 young, enthusiastic winemakers are, on their own, responsible for 80% of the production.

Our team of 7 employees and our oenologist Marc Dubernet take care of the wine-making and marketing.

Production and marketing

In an average year we produce 12,500 hectolitres of red, rosé and white Corbières.

White represents 5% of the production with rosé varying between 10% and 15% depending on the year.

Our wine is marketed directly in France, bypassing the big wholesalers, but 50% of the production is exported (EU, Japan, USA).

Bettanes & Desseauve : Classification of the Best French Wines 2009

This is a modestly-sized cooperative is spread over the Lagrasse and Alaric terroirs. Directed by Odile Denat, the winery has benefitted from the support of winemakers Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent, notably for the ‘ C’. The total rethinking of the winemaking process has allowed them to produce fine oenologically-irreprochable wines. The wines in the Peyres Nobles range make good everyday drinking.
