Camplong, in the district of Lagrasse, Corbières.
A selection from Camplong's oldest vineyards, on the best slopes of the southern side of the Montagne d'Alaric.
Geology: fine sediments derived from the mountain (red earth, gravel and pebbles, and calcareous soils)
Grape
varieties
- Grenache noir (45 years old): 16%
- Syrah (15 years old): 50 %
- Carignan (more than 50 years old): 26%
- Mourvèdre: 8%
Wine-making
- Dominique Laurent and Michel Tardieu tested and advised at all stages in the wine-making processes.
- All the grapes were harvested manually.
- Carbonic maceration was used for the Carignan, to keep the grapes intact; the Mourvèdre and Grenache were destalked. Both varieties were fermented in the same vat for 12 days at a low temperature.
- Carbonic maceration was also used for the Syrah, which was again fermented at a low temperature before being blended with the Carignan and Grenache.
- The wine was matured on its lees in Dominique Laurent’s fine-grained new oak barrels from the Allier, before being bottled. ‘C’ de Camplong is neither cleared nor filtered.
Description
The rigorous work in selecting the grapes and the careful preparation have produced a wine of exceptional quality.
This enchanting wine has a beautiful deep colour, and a fine nose composed of mature red fruits, smells of the garrigue and oriental spices.
Subtle and silky tannins with a hint of oak. The 2000 vintage will show its potential in two to three years and should keep for 15 years in good conditions.
Production: 21,000 bottles. Reservation advisable.
